Other Ideas & Special Rides

As well as the standard riding trips featured on this website we have other riding options that might suit those with a particular interest and we will also once again, be offering several special rides. Some of these are with dedicated trip leaders meaning that not only will you benefit from the experience and knowledge of your local guide, but you will have the advantage of travelling with a private group of like-minded riders under the careful guidance of a well travelled and entertaining host.

Classical Riding in Andalucia
Hacienda Dos Olivos is a small, typically Andalucian Hacienda just south of Seville in southern Spain. It is owned by Johanna Beattie, an English lady who trained at the Royal School of Equestrian Art in Jerez and who offers instruction in Classical Riding on pure-bred Andalucian horses. Stays at Dos Olivos are organised on request and are generally for a week. They can include a combination of lessons, hacking from a neighbouring stable, visits to the Royal School in Jerez and to a local Andalucian stud. Contact us for further details.

France, Le Bourdil Blanc - Yoga and Riding - this was a great success last year in Portugal - a refreshing ‘hippotherapy’ week. This year the venue is Le Bourdil Blanc, a lovely manor house in the Dordogne. Each day begins and ends with an invigorating yoga class with plenty of time for riding in between. Dates - 18th to 25th September 2010.

Tour Leaders:

Tristan Voorspuy - Anyone who has ridden with Tristan Voorspuy of Offbeat Safaris knows what a superb guide he is and how much he can add to any trip with his knowledge of the bush, the game, the birds, and also Kenya's political and economic climate. For 2011 we plan to send Tristan to a completely new area - to accompany a ride across the plains of Hungary. Please contact us for plans and dates.

Richard Dunwoody MBE - For the past 5 years Richard Dunwoody, champion jockey from 1992 to 1995 and record holder of over 1699 winners in Britain alone, has been escorting rides to Kyrgyzstan. For 2010 we hope to find a new venue to entice him. Richard is an excellent trip leader - approachable, fun and always full of interesting stories.

Jakob von Plesson - Currently working for Offbeat Safaris as a riding safari guide in Kenya, Jakob will be taking private group escorted rides in Argentina for the next South America season. The first two rides co-incide with the legendary Buenos Aires Polo Open - 22nd November to 2nd December & 6th to 16th December. Then in early 2011 dates may include cattle mustering and possibly stag hunting depending on the season - 5th to 15th January, 19th to 29th January, 2nd to 12th February, 16th to 26th February, 2nd to 12th March & 16th to 26th March. Jakob was born and brought up in Argentina and this special ride will include visits to several private Estancias owned by friends and family - a unique opportunity to see Argentinean life from the ‘inside’.

Jan Schovsbo - The Schovsbo family have been running horse safaris from their family farm close to Mount Meru in Tanzania for many years. With close relatives in Argentina, they have also taken many private groups to ride in South America. Jan has several exciting rides planned there for 2010 including the Southern Cross Ride which explores some of the more remote valleys in Patagonia and the Austral Expedition which crosses from Argentina into Chile. Contact us for dates and itineraries.

Jane Williams - Many of you will know Jane Williams from Estancia Huechahue. As well as hosting guests at this lovely estancia Jane has been leading rides up into the Andes, with equipment carried on pack horses and exploring the beautiful Lanin National Park. For the last 2 years she has also organised a major expedition, crossing the South American Continent. This adventure, for the very tough and hardy only, is for 21 nights and covers 900kms. Dates are 12th March to 2nd April 2011. Rate USD 9214 per person. Please enquire for more information.

Nigel Harvey - Nigel is a founder and director of Ride World Wide. He is also an avid traveller and experienced horseman with a passion for South America where he lived for several years working on Estancias in both Chile and Argentina, from Tierra del Fuego to the province of Corrientes. During this time he spent three months riding through Patagonia, crossing from Chile to Argentina and back and organised many riding trips into the Andes in his spare time. He aims to return to Chile each year to ride with the Huasos (Chilean cowboys) who are now old friends.
