Having said that it was just part of the holiday and something to boast about when we got home. "Although the clothing list mentioned the potential for cold winds, I’d emphasise it more. I needed to buy a scarf to protect against wind and ear – ache.. It was a fantastic holiday that I would recommend to anyone, although some of the steep descents and strong winds mean it isn’t suitable for nervous riders. All the gauchos and Jorge, our guide, were excellent – they couldn’t do enough for us. A highlight was an invite to Lian and Alec’s cabin at the Serrano River for dinner – they made us feel so welcome and it was the best meal of the trip. “I absolutely loved it. The horses were fresh, very willing, very happy, healthy and well cared for. Our guide, Letitia, did way more than anyone could have expected. She was an absolute delight, with the patience of a saint – always a smile on her face and extremely hospitable. I cannot praise Letitia enough. She is very well informed about the country itself and it obviously well liked by all of the people we came in contact with. Fabian, the bus driver, should also be commended. He too, worked tirelessly. The accommodation and food was fantastic, as were the gauchos. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they worked very hard indeed and kept a weather eye on all of us and the horses all the time. Fernando, the last gaucho to take us out, chased and caught an Armadillo for me because he knew that I hadn’t seen one! ….. I can’t wait to go back. Thank you for recommending this ride.

Even though it was the first ride of the season, the horses were fit and ready for the challenge. All the staff, without exception, were first rate. Food, although being too much at times, was very good. It was a good idea to go to Manu first to get somewhat used to the altitude as some people flew right in for the ride and had some trouble adjusting. I told Eddie that I can sometimes be a bit nervous on a new horse, but he would not let me get by with that! He said I rode much better than I thought and he put me on a stallion. One of the best trained horses, so willing and yet listened to what I wanted. What a wonderful vacation. We are already checking out some of the other rides for the future. Thank you so much again for all your work in arranging most of the travel plans"

"J’s horse could not be faulted in any way. My horse was a serial jogger, as horses in this part of the world often are. In all other respects he was an absolute joy to ride, responsive, forward going and never tired. The food was not as hot and spicy as we expected. This is not really a criticism as we think it was toned down so as not to offend the gringo digestive system. We had a huge room with inglenook fireplace. When we returned to our room after dinner each evening, we could warm ourselves in front of a roaring log fire".

The whole holiday was excellent in every aspect – one of the best I have been on. Superb food, horses and accommodation, very friendly and helpful staff. I would certainly recommend it to anyone as all levels of ability were well catered for and there was no pressure to do anything you were not comfortable with. Just emphasise how cold it can get at night – the weather can swing form below freezing to 80F in one day!

We never thought we would find somewhere commercial that would take care of their horses (and guests) as we do at home. We had arranged an 8 day tour of Wyoming before we arrived (the right way round) and together with the fabulous time at Bitterroot it made the best holiday we have ever had. "Had a wonderful week – very friendly people - from owners Bayard, Mel and Richard – through all wranglers to cabin staff. Made sure to put us on rides with the same standard of riders and alternated horses and took note of our favourites. Slightly apprehensive when I arrived to find I was the only person on their own amongst all families but as soon as children were safely catered for, the parents and children went their own ways and adults rode/socialised together. I would highly recommend this holiday for a lovely riding experience in spectacular countryside with a very friendly bunch of people and lovely, forward going, sure-footed horses."

The food was extraordinarily good and all freshly cooked; the set up was refreshingly uncommercial. We felt like guests rather than ‘clients’ and were not bombarded with glossy brochures etc.; the cabin accommodation was very cosy and comfortable; the place was full of animals, including the horses, all of which were clearly much-loved and well taken care of. I don’t think we ever heard any one raise their voice at an animal during our stay. Very unusual in such a big yard. We all want to go back! .So, many thanks for your help in organising this trip. "The riding was really good and we rode over very varied terrain ie steep hills etc so I think it was was appropriate to say that only intermediate to advanced riders should go as people with not much confidence around horses would probably struggle. All I all a very well organised holiday".

"I had a wonderful time. The hosts were marvellous. I did think that we would be given more instructions – the cowboys seem to be a race of few words! Perhaps if I go again I will know what I was meant to be doing and where to go etc! Evening entertainment was great, camping was fine (very cold at night), food basic and lots of it, hosts very welcoming – nothing was too much trouble. Would advise anyone to wear cowboy boots, cowboy hat, neckerchief, top with long sleeved shirt over and jeans, not jodhpurs. Fantastic holiday! Thank you."

"Firstly I would like to thank Kate (RWW) again for all her help organising flights, hotels etc – she made it so easy for me! Ted, Debs and other ‘staff’ – Doug, Joy and Amanda - were brilliant, really friendly and happy to have us. Their home was open which felt welcoming... All in all I had a fantastic holiday, the weather was HOT! The food plentiful and very tasty. The accommodation comfortable, the hosts very friendly AND (most importantly) the riding was fun, interesting and satisfying. Highly recommended! (Although keep that quiet!)"
